D65 Financial Info Sessions – Tuesday December 6th or Wednesday December 7th

SAVE THE DATE

Join Superintendent Paul Goren to take a deeper dive into the District’s financial situation through analysis of previous budget balancing strategies and spending as well as potential options for addressing projected deficits through continued reductions or revenue increases.

Choose from two information sessions:

Tuesday, December 6, 2016
King Arts Magnet School (2424 Lake Street, Evanston)
7pm-9pm

Wednesday, December 7, 2016
Fleetwood Jourdain Community Center (1655 Foster Street, Evanston)
7pm-9pm

All staff, families, and community members are invited to attend.
Light refreshments, child care, and Spanish translation services will be provided.

Background
This September, the School Board approved the District’s $114 million operating budget for the 2016-2017 school year, making it the 15th consecutive balanced budget in the past two decades. With significant financial challenges on the horizon, including unprecedented deficits upwards of $4 million next school year and reaching over $10 million by 2021, hard choices must be made, including the possibility for a referendum. The District faces increasing costs and limited revenues resulting in a structural deficit that must be addressed to ensure short- and long-term financial stability.

_____________

Escuela King Arts (2424 calle Lake, Evanston)
7-9 pm

Diciembre 7 del 2016
Centro Comunitario Fleetwood Jourdain (1655 calle Foster)
7-9 pm

Tuesday, Nov. 15th, 7:00pm
Willard School

We invite you and your leadership teams to attend next week’s very special meeting of the PTA Council.  As part of our commitment to equity work and the importance of ensuring all families are included and engaged in our school communities, we have asked Ismalis Nunez, D65 Family & Community Engagement Coordinator, to facilitate the meeting.  She will also be sharing some of the common themes she learned through the Community Conversations and Parent Advisories on Black and Latino Student Achievement meetings last spring.  Ismalis is a dynamic and engaging speaker, and you are sure to be enlightened by her insights and take away some valuable strategies you can implement at your school.

Please make sure your PTA leadership is represented at the meeting!

Scholastic Book Fair continues ONLINE now through November 10th

bookandhearts

Dear Walker families,

Thank you so much for coming to our in-school Book Fair! We enjoyed seeing so many of you during the fair and on Special Friends Day. We know Parent-Teacher conferences always keep families busy, and appreciate the time you took to shop with us to support Walker. With your help, we were able to donate $50 worth of books to each of our classrooms and our library at Walker.  This is incredible, and our staff members were all so thankful for the generosity you provided. We could not have done it without you!

thankyouhangingcards

We also wanted to share that we will be continuing to host the fair online now through November 10th.  If we were sold out of a book your child hoped to get or if you weren’t able to make the in-school fair, please check it out.

The Online Fair:

  • Allows you to shop by reading level, grade, and price
  • Provides a chance for you and your child to create and send wish lists to friends and family so they can shop at our school’s Book Fair
  • Is open for an extended time, giving you more days to shop

All purchases at our online fair benefit Walker School, so feel free to share the link with those who may be interested or looking to get an early start on holiday gift shopping.
