Most opportunities are flexible; many are seasonal or event-based, and leadership roles can often be shared by co-chairs or small teams.

🌎 Community & Belonging (7 Opportunities)
Help families connect, build community, and make everyone feel welcome at Walker.
Community Engagement
Help plan family events that bring the Walker community together, including bingo, dances, movie nights, and learning-focused activities. Volunteers may assist with ideas, planning, promotion, setup, activities, and cleanup.
Typical commitment: Flexible and event-based throughout the school year, with the greatest need in the weeks before each event.
PTA Equity Project — PEP
Represent Walker in the district-wide PTA Equity Project by sharing updates, supporting equity-focused fundraising and family engagement, and helping incorporate PEP principles into PTA programs and priorities.
Typical commitment: Ongoing throughout the school year; includes meetings and additional support for PEP events and fundraising as needed.
Spirit Committee
Work with the PTA Co-Presidents to gather community input and develop programming that reflects Walker’s values and affirms its diverse school community.
Typical commitment: Ongoing throughout the school year; includes planning meetings and support for spirit-building activities.
International Night
Help celebrate the families, cultures, traditions, and stories of the Walker community. Volunteers may assist with family outreach, table coordination, food or potluck planning, decorations, setup, and event-day support.
Typical commitment: Short-term and event-based; planning usually begins 4–6 weeks before the event, with extra help needed near the event date.
Kindermixers / New Family Welcome
Help welcome incoming kindergarteners and new Walker families at spring and summer meetups. Volunteers may coordinate dates, greet families, answer questions, and help families feel comfortable before the school year begins.
Typical commitment: Seasonal; a few meetups in spring and summer, with light coordination beforehand.
Back to School Social
Help families reconnect and welcome new families at the start of the school year. Volunteers may assist with food, activities, welcome and PTA information tables, greeting families, setup, and cleanup.
Typical commitment: Short-term and event-based; planning takes place in late summer or early fall, plus event-day support.
Coffee with the Principal
Help families connect with school leadership during Coffee with the Principal. Volunteers may assist with reminders, hospitality, setup, greeting families, and sharing follow-up information.
Typical commitment: Occasional or monthly, depending on the school calendar.
🏫 School & Classroom Support (7 Opportunities)
Support Walker’s classrooms, shared spaces, student experiences, and behind-the-scenes projects.
Garden Committee
Help care for the Walker Garden through seasonal maintenance, planting, watering coordination, and occasional classroom learning projects.
Typical commitment: Year-round, with the greatest need during spring planting and summer watering.
Lost & Found
Help keep Walker’s Lost & Found organized, post photos of unclaimed items, share “last call” reminders, and coordinate donations to the Evanston School Children’s Clothing Association.
Typical commitment: Light, periodic support throughout the school year, plus donation coordination in December and June.
Climate Action
Support green initiatives at Walker, including reusable event materials, recycling, composting, and Earth Day activities.
Typical commitment: Flexible and project-based throughout the school year, with seasonal activities as needed.
Yearbook
Help create the Walker yearbook by collecting photos, supporting 5th grade yearbook fundraising, assisting with design and ordering, and supporting spring distribution.
Typical commitment: Ongoing photo collection throughout the year, with design, ordering, and distribution work concentrated in spring.
Room Parents
Support classroom teachers and grade-level teams with caregiver communication, classroom celebrations, supply coordination, teacher gifts, and other teacher-identified needs.
Typical commitment: Ongoing but flexible; the amount and timing vary by teacher, grade level, and classroom needs.
ESCCA
Support the Evanston School Children’s Clothing Association through clothing donations, volunteer service dates, and coordination of items donated from Walker’s Lost & Found.
Typical commitment: Seasonal or periodic, depending on Walker’s assigned service dates and current needs.
Library & School Project Support
Help source, organize, or prepare materials for the library, classrooms, or other shared school spaces as projects arise.
Typical commitment: Flexible and project-based, with opportunities offered as needs arise.
❤️ Teacher & Staff Appreciation (2 Opportunities)
Help show appreciation for the teachers and staff who support Walker students every day.
Conference Potlucks
Help provide meals and refreshments for teachers and staff during fall and winter conferences. Volunteers may assist with food, drinks, setup, and cleanup.
Typical commitment: Short-term and seasonal during the October and February conference periods.
Teacher Appreciation Week
Help plan and coordinate Teacher Appreciation Week activities, including treats, notes, decorations, meals, small gifts, and other gestures of thanks.
Typical commitment: Short-term and seasonal; planning takes place in spring, with activities during Teacher Appreciation Week in May.
🎉 Events & Traditions (5 Opportunities)
Help create the events and traditions that make Walker welcoming, fun, and connected.
WalkerFest
Help bring Walker’s annual fall carnival—and one of PTA’s largest fundraisers—to life. Volunteers may assist with activities, donations, vendors, food, volunteer coordination, setup, cleanup, and event-day support.
Typical commitment: Seasonal and event-based; planning begins early in the school year, with the greatest need in the weeks before the event and on event day.
Book Fair
Help students explore new books while supporting fundraising that expands student access to books. Volunteers may assist with planning, setup, sales, student visits, restocking, and cleanup.
Typical commitment: Seasonal; planning begins in winter, with volunteer shifts needed during the fair.
Books & Bingo
Support Books & Bingo, a family event held during Book Fair week that helps make the fair more accessible while bringing the Walker community together.
Typical commitment: Short-term and event-based during Book Fair week.
Dances & Parties
Help create school dances, parties, and other family gatherings. Volunteers may assist with themes, music, decorations, snacks, activities, setup, supervision support, and cleanup.
Typical commitment: Seasonal and event-based, depending on the PTA calendar.
Family Math Night
Help families enjoy math games and activities together at this learning-focused community event. Volunteers may assist with planning, registration, activity stations, setup, and event-day support.
Typical commitment: Short-term and event-based, including planning and event-day support.

Help raise and manage funds that support Walker students, teachers, enrichment, school improvements, appreciation, and community events.
Fundraising Committee
Help coordinate Walker PTA’s overall fundraising efforts, including event-based fundraisers, restaurant nights, spiritwear sales, Givebacks, Box Tops, and other initiatives as needed.
Typical commitment: Ongoing throughout the school year, with busier periods around major campaigns and events.
Spiritwear
Help run Walker spiritwear sales by assisting with product selection, promotion, ordering, distribution, and family communication.
Typical commitment: Seasonal, with the greatest need around spiritwear sale and distribution windows.
Givebacks / Box Tops Support
Help promote Givebacks, Box Tops, and other passive fundraising tools so families know how to participate and small contributions can add up over time.
Typical commitment: Light, periodic support throughout the school year.
Donations & Sponsorship Support
Help secure donations, sponsorships, raffle items, supplies, and community partnerships for PTA events and fundraisers.
Typical commitment: Seasonal, with the greatest need before major events and campaigns.
Audit Committee
Help review financial records, receipts, and Treasurer reports so Walker PTA can remain in good nonprofit standing.
Typical commitment: Short-term and seasonal, with timing set by the Treasurer.
Rummage Sale
Help organize a rummage sale that supports reuse, community sharing, and PTA fundraising. Volunteers may collect and sort donations, organize sale areas, promote the event, staff shifts, clean up, and identify useful items for Walker classrooms or shared school spaces.
Typical commitment: Short-term and seasonal, with the greatest need in the weeks before the sale and on event day.

Support the planning, communication, and financial stewardship that keep Walker PTA running.
PTA Co-Presidents
Lead and coordinate Walker PTA’s work by partnering with school leadership, supporting committee chairs, guiding priorities, and overseeing events, meetings, and volunteers.
Typical commitment: Year-round; includes monthly PTA meetings, Executive Team meetings, regular school leadership check-ins, and occasional district PTA Council meetings.
Secretary
Support PTA meetings and communications by preparing agendas and minutes, keeping families informed, and helping with website updates, social media, flyers, and other communications.
Typical commitment: Year-round; includes monthly PTA meetings, Executive Team meetings, and occasional district PTA Council meetings.
Treasurer
Oversee Walker PTA finances, including budget categories, reimbursements, deposits, reporting, audits, and coordination with district-level PTA structures.
Typical commitment: Year-round; includes regular financial tracking, monthly PTA and Executive Team meetings, occasional district PTA Council meetings, and annual reporting.
Treasurer-Elect
Shadow the Treasurer to learn Walker PTA’s financial systems and prepare to assume the role in a future year.
Typical commitment: Year-round; includes monthly PTA and Executive Team meetings, plus ongoing shadowing.
🤝 District & Community Partners
Explore opportunities connected to Walker’s broader school and district community, including programs not directly run by PTA.
Coaching / Sports
Support District 65 elementary sports programs, offered in partnership with the Evanston Park District, by serving as a coach or co-coach.
Typical commitment: Seasonal, depending on the sport.
