Hi Walker Family!

Thank you all so much for your support of our book fair. Whether you volunteered, shopped, or both, your participation helped raise over $1800 for the Walker PTA to provide continued programming and support for our students and nearly $500 for our library. Thanks to our coin drive, we were able to provide between $45-50 worth of books for EVERY CLASSROOM at Walker. (Ms. Arceneaux’s class crushed the classroom competition and will have their pizza party in the upcoming weeks!) Although our overall sales are not as high as they were last year, I am proud of what we have accomplished so far.

The best news is that there is still time to support Walker school through the online Scholastic Book Fair! The fair is currently open until November 10th. This is a great opportunity to buy books you may not have seen at the fair. Even better, this provides a chance for out of town friends and family to support Walker school. The holidays are upon us, so this is great place to find perfect gifts for teachers and students alike! All books will ship FREE OF CHARGE to Walker School once the online fair has closed.

Andy is looking for volunteers to help out once a month or whenever you are able. The hours of operation is between 11am-1pm, and the hope is to have the cart open twice a week.

It is super easy to be the book cart seller so don’t be bashful, Natalie DuBois says!

For those who are not familiar with the beloved Walker Book Cart, here is Natalie’s explanation…

“It is a simple portable shelving unit that houses donated books, fun pencils and erasers for sale. Books are usually $0.50 or less and pencils and erasers are $0.10 apiece. Walker parents volunteer to run the cart and ask Walker Families to donate no longer used books from their home.

Walker students get to shop at the book cart during lunch and recess time.

All Walker students get a free book on their birthday.

Having volunteered for the past 7 years, I can tell you that students absolutely love to shop at the book cart.

Also, you can establish an “account” at the book store simply by sending some change with your child to school. The parent volunteer will keep a tally for your child with the amount of money you sent and how much they spend. I find it a really fun way to do math with kids!”

As some of you know, I’ve been heavily involved in the Cub Scout Pack 922 (when my son was here at Walker) and now with Boy Scout Troop 924 since he has crossed over with middle school.

Kassi, my daughter, has been begging me to join a Girl Scout Troop. Most of the current Girl Scout Troops in Evanston are not accepting new members due to over saturation.

So, I’ve decided to start a 3rd grade Girl Scout Troop at Walker. Yay!!

I’m looking for any and all 3rd grade girls who are interested in Girls Scouts and I’m hoping that one mom will co-lead with me.

We can go through the training together and work out the details.
