GIRLS PLAY SPORTS @ Walker Needs Volunteer Chaperones

We are in need of a chaperone for each of the Girls Play Sports After School Clinics scheduled at Walker.  The chaperones that did it last year have not responded to our emails and so we are assuming that they are no longer available. The first GPS After School Clinic at Walker is scheduled for October 27th.

Here is the entire Walker calendar: October 27th, November 17th, December 22nd, January 26th, February 23rd and March 23rd.

Without chaperones we wouldn’t be able to run our Girls Play Sports After School Clinics.  As you may be aware, the high school athletes get out of school at the same time as the 4th and 5th grade girls (3:35pm) so they usually don’t arrive until at least 3:50pm.  The primary role of the chaperone is to welcome the 4th and 5th graders to the gym at the end of the school day and maintain an adult presence once the high school athletes begin their programs.

If the girls have a snack with them, they can eat their snacks before coming into the gym, and then you will have 10-15 minutes or so with them until the high school girls arrive.  Leading them in some warm-up exercises is a great way to pass the time and get them ready to go for the high school athletes.  When the high school girls arrive they are expected to take over so the chaperone role is to simply make sure the girls are safe and where they are supposed to be.

Please email us if you can help!

FIRST LEGO League Jr.* is designed to introduce STEM concepts
to kids ages 6 to 10 while exciting them through a brand they know and love −

LEGO®. Guided by volunteer coach/mentors, teams (up to 6 members, grades K-4) explore a real-world scientific problem. Then they create a Show Me poster that illustrates their journey of discovery and introduces their team. They also construct a
motorized model of what they learned using LEGO elements. In the process, teams learn about teamwork, the wonders of science and technology, and the FIRSTLEGO League Jr. Core Values, which include respect, sharing, and critical thinking.
This year’s national challenge is titled “Creature Craze.”

Dates/Times:Meetings will be held on Fridays, 8am – 9am. (Note: 2-3 additional
sessions may be scheduled based on the Friday days off of school to prepare for the

Wow Walker, we’ve done it again!

Thank you to everyone who came to the BBQ & Enrichment fair yesterday!

So many smiling faces and families enjoying themselves. We so appreciate everyone who lent a hand, and those who brought in food and other necessities – WOW!  You are all amazing. Its impossible to list every single one of you on here, but please don’t think your contribution went unnoticed!  Despite the rain, we had a stellar event because of all of you.

Thank you to all the vendors that took part in our enrichment fair – the families really enjoyed getting to chat more with you about your upcoming programs.  Thank you to Mr. Marcus for the impromptu dance party – enjoyed by participants and spectators alike.

A special thanks to Aaron Masliansky & Nicki DeVine from Jameson Sotheby for donating (and serving) our yummy kosher cake & brownies…. its was the perfect sweet treat to top of the evening.

The year is off to a great start for the PTA, and its all possible because of your support!
