Dear District 65 Families,
Last spring, we convened our first Black and Latino parent advisory meetings focused on student achievement. The feedback gathered during these sessions was used to inform the development of the District 65 Racial and Educational Equity Statement which was approved by the School Board on August 29, 2016. This statement serves as a guidepost for our equity work district-wide. As we strive to better meet the needs of our Black and Latino students and families we commit to:
Continue our focus on K-3 literacy and interventions for striving students,
ongoing professional development to address institutional racism and bias, and
classes and workshop support for families on reading skills, computer literacy building community.
On Tuesday, February 21, we invite you to continue this conversation, hear updates on our equity initiatives, provide feedback and begin to build community with one another. The next Black and Latino Parent Advisory Meeting will be held from 6:30-8:00pm at Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Literary and Fine Arts School (2424 Lake Street).
Open to all District 65 family members. Spanish interpretation and childcare will be available.
Thanks in advance for your commitment to working together for our children.
Sincerely,
Ismalis Nuñez, Family & Community Engagement Coordinator
