Dear District 65 Families,
Last fall, we notified our families about federal guidelines that prohibited the District from using its automated notification system to send non-emergency phone calls and text messages without prior written consent. In response to concerns raised by schools and the education community, these guidelines have recently been clarified by the Federal Communications Commission and exemptions have been made for certain school-related and emergency communications. While some restrictions for sending messages are still in place, we are excited to add text messaging as a new option for connecting with our families. This will enhance and further streamline our communication, especially as the winter season approaches.
Sign up for text messages!
On Wednesday, December 21, parents and guardians who currently have a cell phone number on file with the District will receive a text message on their phone to “opt in” to receive text messages sent on behalf of District 65. Messages may include school closures, emergency notices, and important announcements and reminders. We will continue to share this type of information through email, website, social media, and newsletters.
If you do not choose to opt-in on December 21, you may still sign up at any time by texting a short code that will be posted on the District 65 website Families can expect to receive approximately three text messages per month.*
Families can opt-out of receiving phone or text notifications at any time. However, please understand that this automated system is how we can most quickly reach families in the event of an emergency or school closure. It’s important that the District has your most current contact information. Phone numbers may be updated via the SISK12 parent portal or by sending an email to parents@district65.net. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact me at 847-859-8100 or at messingerm@district65.net.
Best,
Melissa Messinger
Communications Coordinator
