Walker Wolverines PTA

The second annual PTA Equity Project’s Native Plant Sale is live! Choose from a wide selection of native plants, shrubs and trees and place your order now through Wednesday, February 22. 

Proceeds from this sale help support every District 65 school via the One Fund Initiative.

Orders will be available for pick-up on Saturday, May 13 from 10am to 1pm at the District 65 warehouse (2017 Greenleaf St., Evanston). Some native plants, shrubs and trees will be available for purchase. 

Learn more! How can our gardens make a difference for community health and wildlife? Why are native plants so beneficial? How to get started? Register for this Natural Habitat Evanston Zoom presentation on Thursday, February 2 from 7 to 8pm. There will be plenty of time to ask questions.

Congratulations to all 12 players of the Walker Chess Team who played in the Evanston Scholastic Chess Tournament this past weekend at Oakton Elementary. 

The team was represented by Emin Bilgic in Kindergarten, Henry Deutschman and Jacqueline Riberio in 1st grade, Adrian Horopciuc in 2nd grade, Henry Wilkins in 3rd grade, Fiore Zamarelli, Matteo Zamarelli, and Dominic Riberio in 4th grade, Ari Gassel, Emma Alexander, Kuba Sheaff, and Yusuf Bilgic in 5th grade.

In the “Pawns” Division, Adrian Horopciuc (2nd Grade, Ms. Simpson) won First Place, with 4.5 points (4 wins and a draw).

In the “Knights” Division, Emin Bilgic (Kindergarten, Ms. Wittenberg) won First Place with a perfect score of five out of five. Matteo Zamarelli (4th grade, Ms. Barnes) won Third Place.

In the “Bishops” Division, Emma Alexander (5th grade, Ms. Oldfield) won Fourth Place.  

In the “Rooks” Division, Yusuf Bilgic, (5th grade, Ms. Oldfield), won First Place, with a perfect score of four out of four.

We are very proud of all of our Walker Chess Team players, who continue to work on their chess scholarship. Go Wolverines!

To honor the late Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. the PTA will be facilitating monthly acts of service starting in January of this school year. We will be collecting items to put together Hygiene Kits for Connections for the Homeless. Please send in items to Walker prior to Jan. 17, 2023. The scouts will assemble the kits on Jan. 17th from 6-7pm and community members are welcome to come to school and help.

The following items are needed for the kits:

• Shampoo & Conditioner
• Hairbrushes & Combs
• Toothbrushes, Toothpaste, Floss, & Mouthwash
• Deodorant
• Skin Lotion & Moisturizer
• Lip Balm
• Wet Wipes
• Disposable Washclothes
• Hand Scrub Brush & Nail Clippers
• Razors & Shaving Cream
• Socks

District 65 is excited to invite you to join the Student Assignment Project (SAP) Phase II Committee. We are looking for a diverse community group to help us determine equitable program placement throughout the distinct. Click here for more information and click here to apply.
