Books & Breakfast at Walker

What is Books & Breakfast (B&B)? Books & Breakfast is a before school program that offers a healthy meal and homework support to Evanston Elementary students. B&B is an independent non-profit offering programming at multiple District 65 school sites. At Walker Elementary, the program will begin on Tuesday, 9/27. We will meet each morning from 8am to 8:50am in the gym. Our mission is to help students start their day prepared for learning – physically, emotionally and academically!

Last school year, we made an amazing return to in-person programming, with 180 students across our 6 school sites – Dewey, Lincolnwood, Kingsley, Lincoln, Haven, and our newest site, Walker!

Volunteering with B&B
Walker parents, Northwestern students and community volunteers make up an amazing team of tutors at
B&B each morning. Our goal is to give as much individualized attention to students as possible. Are you interested in being a B&B tutor? Tutors typically commit to one morning a week and receive training to provide reading or math support. We also need substitute tutors to join us 3-4 times over the year!

Want more information? If you’d like to know more about Books & Breakfast or would like to volunteer, please reach out to Nimrah Tariq, Walker Site Director at nimraht@booksbreakfast.org or visit our websites, www.booksbreakfast.org/volunteer to sign up!

My65: Foundation 65’s annual benefit, Oct. 6th

We are excited to share that My65, Foundation 65’s annual benefit event, is BACK.

There’s no party like a My65 Party! Foundation 65’s annual benefit, My65 returns this October. The event is critical to our success, both as a significant source of fundraising revenue and as an opportunity to showcase District teachers, programs, and students who have benefitted from the support of a Foundation 65 grant.

Join us at Palmhouse on Howard on October 6 from 7-10 pm. This will be a fun (and safe) way to reconnect as a community and celebrate public schools.
