Note from Dr. Goren

Dear Walker Community,

I am pleased to announce the appointment of Ms. Ginger Lumpkin as the next principal of Walker Elementary School. Ms. Lumpkin will officially join our team on July 1, 2017. As part of the selection process, we met with a diverse group of teachers, educational support staff, parents, and administrators to develop a leadership profile that identified the skills and attributes desired for the next principal of Walker Elementary. The information contained within the leadership profile was used to narrow down a pool of dozens of qualified applicants. Those that were identified as a strong fit for the role were invited to participate in a community forum and also were interviewed by a committee of teachers, parents, and administrators. Ms. Lumpkin is an accomplished educator who recognizes the vital importance of collaboration with teachers, support staff, and families in building a strong community of learners. I am confident she will be a strong leader for the Walker community and a great asset to our school leadership team.

Ms. Lumpkin started her educational career as a student teacher in District 65 at Chute Middle School. For the past four years, Ms. Lumpkin served as principal at John C. Haines Elementary School in Chicago. She also served as the assistant principal at Walter Payton College Preparatory High School for five years and as a classroom teacher, technology instructor, and department chair in the Chicago Public School system. She is a veteran educator with over 20 years of experience serving in diverse school settings. Ms. Lumpkin holds a Master of Education from Lewis University and Bachelor of Arts in Education from Northwestern University.

Ms. Lumpkin has expressed great enthusiasm in joining our team and is excited about working closely with district leadership and the entire staff at Walker to ensure a smooth transition. More information about a ‘meet and greet’ opportunity will be sent this summer. Please join me in welcoming Ms. Ginger Lumpkin to Walker Elementary and District 65.

Kind Regards,

Paul Goren
Superintendent of Schools
